Chemlali vs. Chétoui: Discover Tunisia’s Signature Olive Varieties
Chemlali and Chétoui offer two beautifully different expressions of Tunisian olive oil.
Tunisia has a long-standing olive-growing heritage, shaped by its diverse landscapes, Mediterranean climate and generations of tradition. Among its most distinctive varieties, Chemlali and Chétoui offer two beautifully different expressions of Tunisian olive oil.
Chemlali — Smooth & Elegant
Grown mainly in central and southern Tunisia, particularly around Sfax and Sidi Bouzid, Chemlali is appreciated for its mild, smooth and balanced character.
Its oil can reveal delicate notes of fresh olive, green almond and ripe fruit, with a gentle finish. Versatile and refined, Chemlali pairs beautifully with salads, seafood, vegetables, fresh bread and everyday Mediterranean dishes.
Chétoui — Bold & Characterful
Primarily cultivated in northern Tunisia, Chétoui offers a more intense experience.
Its oil is known for its fresh green aromas, pleasant bitterness and distinctive peppery finish, sometimes accompanied by herbal and artichoke-like notes. It is an excellent choice for grilled vegetables, meats, tomatoes, hearty salads or simply enjoyed with warm bread.
Two Varieties, One Tunisian Heritage
The difference is easy to appreciate:
Chemlali is smooth, delicate and harmonious.
Chétoui is bold, green and peppery.
Yet both express the richness of Tunisia's olive-growing heritage.
At PREVOLIO, we believe great olive oil is more than a product. It is a reflection of the land, the harvest and the people behind it.
